Self taught as an artist, Michel Pellus’ work has evolved over the course of his career. His early works were characterized by humor, optimism and rich symbolism. Realistic figures were set in fantasy landscapes giving a sense of cosmic duality.  Pellus has coined the term “subjective realism” to describe this style of painting
In his latest endeavor, Pellus has explored what he terms as  “Macro Realism,” close-up views of people and objects as seen under a magnifying glass on over-sized canvas.

Mary Lou Siefker Studio

She has taught painting and design at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, as well as serving as a docent in the education department at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"Art is a building process, one painting pointing the way to another – one breakthrough causing an explosion of creative action. This whole process is a playful energetic explosion of color, line, brushstroke, value, intensity which evolves from my love of paint and making “marks” on a surface. My “marks” have explored horizons, land, water, skies, images as the “hook” to enter the canvas. Each painting becomes a time of joy and frustration, a battleground of highs and lows, and always attempting to learn more about the process, always pushing the borders. In the end there is always the question – Is this a painting?
~ Mary Lou Siefker

Francie Bishop Good Studio
117 NE 2 Street

Francie Bishop Good was born in Bethlehem, PA, and lives and works in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US, Europe and Latin America and is included in public and private collections in the US. Her work has appeared in publications, including The Miami Herald, Art in America, and ARTnews, among others.

Francie will be showing new work from the Fusions and Next Chapter series, both hybrids combining modes of painting, drawing, collage and photography with bold abstract shapes and lines that add tension and emotionality to the subjects. In these new series, the act of painting on top of a photograph is at once destructive and constructive; the lines and paint on the paper are a reaction to the picture below and an action to create new forms.

Spotlight on MAC Fine Art

833 NE 4th Avenue

MAC Fine Art is joining Art Fallout for the first time this year, hosting a group exhibition Sidetracked curated by Rochi Llaneza.  Sidetracked is a group show  where the work of the artists is either the result of being sidetracked or sidetracking intentionally to accomplish an objective.

Setting the tone for the exhibition is a quote from Sir Ken Robinson: "Divergent thinking ... is an essential capacity for creativity. It's the ability to see lots of possible answers to a question, lots of possible ways to interpret a question, to think laterally, to think not just in linear or convergent ways, to see multiple answers, not one."

Artists featured: Aaron Arroyave, Lidia Cara, Margartia Castro Don, Gary Fonseca, Julie Friel, and others.

MAC Fine Art is located in a 10,000 sq. ft. gallery that houses the vast MAC collection. MAC maintains an in house Multimedia Department complete with a digital photography studio, a state-of-the-art Gicleé printing facility, and a computer-graphic/prepress department. The space also features a custom design frame shop and shipping department, which allows for even greater quality control, giving the gallery full oversight of the collecting process, from initial contact through to the finish, delivery and installation of the artwork.

Street parking available.

Spotlight on the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale

1 East Las Olas Blvd

The Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale will be joining Art Fallout once again this year with the exhibition Café Dolly: Picabia, Schnabel, Willumsen, an exhibition of approximately 75 paintings with an intensely painterly language with recognizable motifs, clear contours, and raw colors in bold combinations, along with a need to explore and challenge the tradition of painting.

Bringing together the work of French artist Francis Picabia (1879–1953), American artist Julian Schnabel (b. 1951), and Danish artist Jens Ferdinand Willumsen (1863–1958) for the first time in the United States, the exhibition Café Dolly: Picabia, Schnabel, Willumsen will be on view at NSU Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale from October 12, 2014 - February 1, 2015. The illuminating exhibition reveals surprising connections between stylistic and painterly concerns that span generations and geography.

The exhibition’s title references the world’s first cloned sheep, Dolly, whose birth in 1996 sparked international controversy and called into question cultural ideas about ethics and materiality. In a visual arts context, Picabia, Schnabel, and Willumsen challenge the same concepts in their unprejudiced treatment of the traditions of art history and mass media images as well as private photographs and stories.

The Museum Store and Café will be open all evening and running a special offer, 2 for 1 on wine and beer, with lite bites available.
