Spotlight on Girls' Club
Girls' Club will open for a special one day exhibition Art Fallout: Thinking on Paper,
where visitors can not only see new work from local artists, but get
involved by offering their own comments and feedback for the artists.
This interactive experience breaks down barriers between audiences and
artists, engaging in a direct dialogue about contemporary art. A
distinguished panel of South Florida arts professionals have also been
invited and will offer their insights to emerging artists.
All south Florida artists are invited to submit work on paper for exhibition. All mediums accepted, but work must be on paper. Guidelines, details and the online submission form are available at girlsclubcollection.org/art-fallout-2013. Works can be dropped Wednesday-Friday until the October 4 deadline.

Spotlight on 1310 Gallery and Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts
1310 Gallery and select artists studios will open their doors for Art Fallout 2013, inviting the public to experience not only the unique, tri-level gallery space but the live/work spaces of Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts, a public project coordinated by Broward County to retain affordable housing and studio space for artists and their families.

VIEW: Rough and Tumble, at Projects North, curated by Lisa Rockford, brings together 29 artists selected through a part juried, part invitational process. The artists are linked by their fresh approaches to the ROUGH & TUMBLE theme. Selected artists were asked to respond to the following definitions; ROUGH: “characterized by violent, random, disorderly action and struggles, unrestrained, marked by bursts of destructive force or intense activity,” and TUMBLE: “an unorganized collection or mixture of various things, described as Raw, Textured, Volatile, and/or Arbitrary, Hybrid forms.”

1310 SW 2nd Court1310 Gallery, a recent winner of New Times magazine “Best Gallery 2013/Editorial choice,” offers a unique 3000 square foot exhibition space, split into 3 levels. The gallery is housed within ArtSpace’s Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts, situated in a scenic and historic part of downtown Ft Lauderdale. 1310 Gallery is an artist run collective that rotates art exhibitions monthly.
VIEW: Fiber Optics an exhibition of 42 artists, as well as visit open studios. Fiber Optics is a comprehensive survey of fresh, innovative approaches to “fiber art.” The artists selected have reinvented traditional craft processes such as embroidery, crochet, knitting, weaving, sewing, and quilting. Rather than follow prescribed methods, they merge traditional craft with sculpture, installation, and video art; and utilize unexpected materials that transcend their banal origins with integral symbolism. Though the approaches are unconventional, technique, precision, and aesthetic appeal are still at the core of their processes.

The project will take over a 13,000 ft2 lot on the corner of Andrews Avenue and 5 Street, with an interactive 100 ft-long wall mural and a sculptural playground for all ages. Art Fallout patrons are invited to adventure through the actions presented by the sculptural playground and make their own contributions to the ongoing murals.The entire site will be transformed into an all-inclusive artwork, created by the artists and activists comprising BLA.
